Hi everyone, I got a request for a post on MAC starter kit for Indian/South Asian skin tones. The things I am recommending are based on my experience – if there is something I recommend that you absolutely don’t need or have another brand’s product you are completely satisfied with, don’t run off to MAC to buy, just because I said so!
The number one thing that every brown girl needs in her make-up stash is a concealer! I cannot stress how important concealing is for our kind! For most South Asians, dark circles are hereditary and it is the first sign of “aging”, in my opinion.  MAC, by far makes the best and most affordable (out of higher end brands, anyways) concealers there are. My go to concealer, which I am absolutely head over heels in love with, is MAC Studio Finish SPF 35 Concealer in NC42. My foundation shade is NC40, but MAC doesn’t have NC40 concealer and to be honest, even if they did, I would still use NC42 because I  am 100% satisfied with how it conceals my dark circles and blemishes. I especially like the fact that it has SPF 35, which makes it great to put under the eyes.
I would not heartily recommend any foundations from MAC. I either find them too cakey or or too orangey and I have known a lot of people who break out because of them. But one thing I would recommend is the Mineralize Skinfinish/Natural powder. It is a nice touch-up (with minor imperfections such as lack of mirror and sponge) and works wonderfully well as a setting powder. You can read a full on review, here.
MAC makes one of the blushes out there and I can say that with full confidence! The range is endless and you are sure to find something that suits you the best. One blush that every brown girl with my skin-tone or nearing should have is Peachykeen.  It is a gorgeous every day blush that you can wear to school, to work, on a date – its absolutely perfect for any occasion. For detailed swatches, click here. But the best thing in my opinion will be to go the store and ask the MUA for personalized help. Peachykeen is my pick and your taste could be poles apart from mine! Gingerly is also another great option for everyday if you want a soft muted brown.
For eyes, if I had to only recommend one product from MAC, it would be the Blacktrack Fluidline. I have an eyeliner obsession, and I have tried a bazillion on them and I have to tell you nothing and I mean NOTHINGbeats Blacktrack Fluidline in terms of pigment, staying power and usability. And this thing lasts forever and ever. I have been using mine for two years and still have more than half a pot left to go.For eyeshadows – it is really your personal preference in colors. You are likely to find something that flatters you and your tastes. If you want you can start with a quad, one ultra dark color, one color for the crease, one all over lid color and a highlighter. It really depends on what color family you feel comfortable wearing the most.

Lipsticks or lipglosses are great, but definitely not something you absolutely must buy from MAC for the first time. Since this recommendation is for a starter kit, you can skin this for now and come back for more later.

What about you? What would you recommend someone who is just starting out with MAC? Or your thoughts on this list…please let me & others know!

Hey! I went into MAC for concealer yesterday – I'm an NC 43.5 in foundation and even the SA recommended a darker shade (NC 45) in concealer :D

I didn't try studio finish though – will try that on my next trip. :) and you convinced me about gingerly. :)

ugh my facebook is so messed up with so many stalkers (of the people in my real life lol) so I wont do that there. besides that I am just a blurry thing in a sea of people. I did a makeup tutorial for that look, but unfortunately i could not edit it. Soo no luck. I could give you the breakdown tho, if you want!
