I have been a big fan of the Bare Escentuals line since it first came out. I was hardly a foundation loyalist, but Bare Escentuals always had me coming back to it. It made my skin GLOW! I am of course, talking about the original formula. The matte formulation leaves much to be desired, to say the least. Ready to analyze and decipher Bare Escentuals bareMinerals SPF 15 Matte Foundation ($28/US and $31/Cdn) with me? So let’s start!
Let’s start with the good news first, shall we? The only reason I gravitated towards this matte formulation was its packaging. It is smart and a big improvement from the packaging used in the original formulation. The “lock system” prevents much wastage. I don’t understand why they do not use similar packaging in the original formulation. Is there a bias against people who do not need the mattifying effect? lol. Other than that, it is the usual Bare Escentuals stuff – that is is natural, made without parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrances & dyes, petro-chemicals (lol, I didn’t know that few companies actually put this stuff in your make-up!) and phthalates. In short, it claims to be good for your skin – cool with me!
The bad news; where do I start from? Let’s just see what it claims to do!
1) Improves skin over time – It kinda ruined my skin instantly, so I don’t know how this would have improved my skin over time. FAIL!
2) Absorbs excess oil and eliminates shine without drying skin – I don’t have any oil on my skin and neither is it dry any more. In fact, I think of it was absolutely normal and steady (I am over my dry phase). So what this thing did to my skin was gross. It left it blotchy and indeed dry. FAIL!
3)Minimizes pores and revitalizes skin. I don’t have problem with pores, as mine are practically invisible, so I would not be the best judge for it. It did not revitalize my skin, in fact it looked so dull and patchy. FAIL (for 1/2 the claim)!
4) Innovative Click, Lock and Go sifter prevents spills and Leaks. Indeed, it does. In fact, this is the only reason I purchased this formulation. PASS!
So who may like it? Someone with REALLY oily skin. This product is not for someone who has normal skin, even. And definitely not for those with dry skin.
Will I repurchase? NO!
