OMG OMG OMG I can’t contain my excitement. If you have been following me on twitter, you would know that I had a surprise planned for my readers. Well I promised, so it must be delivered. Let me present to you, the make-up artist extraordinaire, Kapil Bhalla.
What is your first memory with make-up?
My first makeup memory was of my mother when I was 5 yrs old. She would put on her coral red lipstick and I would be watching her barely reaching her saare pallu. I would watch her backcomb her hair and put on juda extensions, very 70′s!
What made you want to be a make-up artist?
Make up came naturally to me, I guess I was born to do it. My dad was a celebrated cinematographer of his times but on his shoots I could only see makeup, hair and actresses.
What advice would you give to young people who want to break into this industry?
Now, hair and makeup is a profession but when I started 15 yrs ago it was still bollywood based. Get into a professional course to begin with and keep your basics strong. Do not be in a hurry to make big bucks very soon, make your mistakes while you are still unknown!
Which celebrities have you worked with and who is your favorite?
I have worked with almost everyone. I really enjoy working with Bipasha and Kareena. They both make work look like fun!
What does your favorite look comprise of?
My all time favourite look is dramatic smokey eyes teamed with a pale mouth or a classic extended eyeliner with a coral mouth.
What is the number one make-up mistake that Indian women make ?
The biggest mistake is to not wear mascara. It actually helps open the eyes.
Finally, what are your five must have products?
MAC Blacktrack Fluidline
Lancome Oscillation Mascara
Carmex lim balm
Chanel Red Lipstick.
He is just so lovely and down to earth, I had such a blast interviewing him.
